Money - Information
and Tips |
If
you run out of money while you're on the road, or if you need to
send money abroad to someone in a hurry, the best way to do it is
either via MoneyGram
or Western Union. Both
charge variable
fees depending on how much money you are sending. To send $1000,
MoneyGram will charge you about $75 if it is within the United
States, and about $65 to send money abroad. Western Union charges
about $85, whether it is domestic or international. You can
typically pay with cash or charge the transaction to a credit card
and complete the transaction by telephone. Call MoneyGram at (800)
543-4080 or Western Union at (800) CALL-CASH.
Your other options for sending money abroad include a bank wire
transfer, obtaining a check written in foreign currency from a
foreign currency dealer, or an international postal money order from
the post office, both of which you could then send overnight mail.
While less expensive, these methods take more time. |
