Caribbean Festivals Directory

Caribbean carnivals / festivals reflect the complex social, political, and economic history of the Caribbean Basin, while at the same time giving rise to new forms of cultural expression. Wherever Caribbean festivals take place, you find a universe in motion where high-spirited masqueraders, fueled by infectious rhythms, perform a joyful ritual of song and dance. Huge costumes and legendary folklore characters dance dramatically through the crowds.

JANUARY

  • Barbados Jazz Festival / January 12 - 18, 2004
    There will be cool jazz on warm Caribbean shores when Barbados hosts the eleventh annual Barbados Jazz Festival from January 12th to 18th, 2004.The Barbados Jazz Festival, which celebrates the best in international and local jazz talent, has become a major annual Caribbean event.  Venues typically include the modern Sir Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, historic Sunbury Plantation House, and the popular open air venue, Farley Hill National Park.

FEBRUARY

You don’t just stand on the side and watch it go by. You see it, hear it, smell it, taste it, breathe it and live it. For months before Carnival Monday and Tuesday preparations get underway. For some people this is all that seems to matter.

MARCH

  • Welcome to Dominica Carnival: A History of Dominica's Carnival. ... Like the other activities, this is open to everyone because Carnival in Dominica is a time when all differences are put aside!

APRIL

  • Carriacou's Maroon Music Festival: takes place in April at Belair Park on Carriacou. The Festival combines Big Drum National Dancing, String Band Music and Quadrille Dancing with great food and the perfect location.

  • Barbados Crop Over Festival Begins: Crop Over, a five-week summer festival, isBarbados Featured Events Barbados' most popular and colourful festival. It's origins can be traced back to the 1780's, a time when Barbados was the world's largest producer of sugar. At the end of the sugar season, there was always a huge celebration to mark the culmination of another successful sugar cane harvest - the Crop Over celebration.   • Jamaica Reggae Sumfest: In Montego Bay, the  largest International Reggae festival.

AUGUST

  • Grenada Carnival: The Carnival Festival celebrates emancipation and brings artistry, music, dance and food together in ten days of vibrant festivity.

SEPTEMBER

  • Brooklyn West Indian Carnival: Labor Day is the good times afforded by the three day weekend marking the end of summer. This is, after all the Capital of the Caribbean biggest annual unity event and possibly even the big apple's largest celebration. 

OCTOBER

  • Dominican Republic Jazz Festival: Has scheduled events located throughout the island. Some of this years performers are; Arturo Sandoval, Rene Marie, and Natty Love Joys.
